I do appreciate that the Tab S3 includes the S Pen in the price, especially when Apple charges an addition $100 for its stylus. While its keyboard case is $20 cheaper than the iPad Pro's case, it's still a tablet-sized keyboard, and those are only functional to a point. The Tab S3 is one of the better all-purpose Android tablets, but it's still no match for the iPad Pro in terms of performance and battery life. But Flow will mostly come in handy for text notifications and other non-Google related alerts-if you sign in to the same Google account on both your smartphone and the Tab S3, you'll get alerts related to that account on both devices anyway. It's very similar to continuity features provided on iOS and macOS, and Flow will no doubt be just as convenient as Apple's software for those who have Samsung handsets. However, you'll get more app options on an iPad not only because Apple's App Store is more robust than the Google Play Store, but it also has more professional-grade apps optimized for large tablet displays.Īrguably the most useful Samsung app is Flow, which lets you sync the Tab S3 with your Samsung Galaxy smartphone so you can receive and respond to notifications from either device. Samsung also included the mobile versions of Microsoft's suite of Office apps, which will be easier to use on the Tab S3 than on the Tab S2 if you get the keyboard accessory. For that reason alone, I stuck to my preferred art apps like Autodesk SketchBook. Samsung includes an app called Pen.Up, a "social network" for artists to create and share digital drawings, but you need to sign up for a free account before you can even sketch in it. It holds apps including Internet, Email, and My Files, which can be ignored if you rely on similar Google services. The obligatory Samsung-replica-apps folder remains. But we appreciate that Samsung gives you the option to turn that feature on or off. The white square does help apps stand out on the home pages like Samsung claims, particularly if you have a busy wallpaper. Turning it off will make Google apps icons, like Hangouts and Drive, have more of that Material Design feel, even if they don't look identical to app icons on devices like the Google Pixel smartphone. One of the design options that's on by default is the "icon frames" setting, which hugs each app icon with a translucent, white rounded square. This version of Samsung's TouchWiz theme is arguably the least offensive that we've seen, and it doesn't clash with Google's Material Design as much as previous versions. The Tab S3 also comes with the FebruAndroid security patch, making it a month out of date. Those are relatively small improvements, but we would have liked to have them immediately on the Tab S3. "launch actions" to certain apps, including YouTube, and it brought GIF keyboards to Google Allo, Google Messenger, and Hangouts. When Android 7.1.1 came out a few months ago, it brought new emojis, it brought a thing called That includes the multitasking features, some of which Samsung offered long before standard Android did. The Tab S3 ships with Android 7.0, so you'll get all the big features of Nougat out of the box. If you have not updated the Samsung Flow app to the latest version, please go to Windows Store > Menu > Downloads and Updates to update the app.Further Reading Android 7.0 Nougat review-Do more on your gigantic smartphone Go to the Samsung Flow webpage where you can find the setup guide: Windows 10 users can find the Samsung Flow app on the Windows App Store. * Windows: Bluetooth (Bluetooth LE optional), Wi-Fi direct * Samsung Flow will operate only on official software released by Samsung Electronics.
